Description:
French, 19th century. An extremely well detailed figural bronze Mythological sculpture & lamp. The graceful deity is shown semi-nude, full length with one hip back and the opposite forward. She is partially covered by a pleated garment,in the Classic Greek fashion which falls gracefully.Wrapped on her arm is the Hercules' lion skin (of Mythological significance). She holds a cluster of grapes in one hand, her hair is coiffed in corkscrew curls and the goddess' head is wreathed with vines. To her left side is a dancing baby pan, seen naked (separate casting) in the form of a child with goat feet or hooves. The boy looks up towards the goddess holding a cup with a cluster of grapes. To the reserve is a tall tree trunk intertwined with grapevine leaves, rising above the statue and terminating in a torch.The sculpture stands on a round base, elaborately decorated with grape vines and foliate. Intact, in excellent condition with no damage. The bronze may be used as a statue or lamp. It is not wired but perforated to the base and ready for wiring with an opening in the torch to attach the shade as well. The statue comes with a large black tole shade with brass banding and a brass finial.
The dark bronze patina remains untouched and in original condition with traces of gilding. Stands 31" H x 11 1/2" W x 9" D x 14" diameter at the base.
