Description:
This is a wonderful French antique Breton Man style figural pipe holder by the famous maker J. Martin. This item is deeply carved in relief; the man has an expressive face, long hair, and is attired in bloomer style breeches with pockets hollowed out 2 inches deep to hold pipes. He wears a wide belt and pointy wooden shoes. The wide brimmed hat comes off to reveal candlestick holder in top of head. On the back is inscribed J. MARTIN and PARAME (a town in northwest France). Dimensions (in inches): 10.5 H X 3.0 D X 3.5 W. Weight: 1 Lb., 1.0 Oz. No restorations; the figural carving is in very good condition.
