Description:
One of the many books from the Estate of Francis P. Fretwell that we will be selling. The library is the largest privately owned collection of dog books in the world. Mr. Fretwell was the owner of Monfret Kennels, which bred champion standard poodles. He was former president and governor of the Poodle Club of America, and the Italian Greyhound Club of America. He also served as a delegate to the American Kennel Club for decades. His wonderful collection of books has been carefully maintained. *** The Dalmatian. By Franklin J. Willock. Chicago: Will Judy Publishing Co., 1975. Facsimile limited ed. Nș 494 of 3,000 of the original Ernest R. Gee 1927, ed. 8vo., 44p., white cloth with b&w illustration. Frontispiece. Foreword by Flora M. Bonney. A reprint of the 1927 first monograph of the breed about which Eugene Connent was not proud and thought of it as the most unaesthetic thing to bear his name [as publisher] but it still remains one of the earliest publication of the Press and a rarity because of the small issue and fragil nature of the work. (1927 ed.) Covers have slight foxing. Mr. Fretwell's bp on front fixed endpaper. Fore-edges somewhat roughly cut. NF.
