Description:
Alpha Andrews is one of the premiere self-taught folk artists in America. She is listed in Davenport's Art Reference, The Artist Bluebook, Self-Taught Outsider and Folk Art (p.339), and the Contemporary American Folk Art Guide. One of her paintings is featured on the back cover of Field Guide to American Folk Art. Her work has been included in many permanent collections, including the American Folk Art Museum. Alpha Andreews was born in 1932 in rural Georgia, the daughter of a sharecropper. Her art shows a fascinating dream-like view of the world, often with religious themes. This piece is an oil on board, in the dimensional technique of thousands of little dots of paint, a style recognized immediately as an Alpha Andrews. Alpha Andrews is truly an American treasure, and this painting, "Flowers in a Vase," will bring cheer and good energy to any home or collection.
