Description:
We are offering a tiny little capsule of a bygone era in book form, "The Flower Vase" by Miss S.C. Edgarton. There was a time when women were expected to keep themselves occupied at all times, and small books such as this one, which could be tucked into a lady's handbag to be taken out and read when she wasn't doing anything useful, guarded against that dreaded "idle mind". This dainty little tome, published in 1848, contains poetry about various plants & flowers. Measuring just 4.5 x 3, it is covered in dark olive green cloth, with an embossed design. The cover also has a picture of a child in gold. The binding is quite frayed on the edges, more on the bottom. All edges and corners are frayed. The front coverboard is detached from the spine on the outside, but still attached on the inside. The pages are firmly bound, and there is a moderate amount of foxing throughout. It contains one color illustration, which has an onionskin coverpage. The sale of this item will benefit our local Hospice. They have a booth here in our mall where they sell the finer things that are donated to them. Please visit our GoAntiques site to see the other listings we have for this beloved charity.
