Description:
Important REAL XVII th Flemish tapestry , it is a fragment of a bigger one measuring probably 33 feet wide , the complete tapestry would be fantastic. I have seen in several occasions big tapestry been cut in 4 parts, so that they fit better in modern houses . In this fragment of tapestry of the XVII Century, I can see a scene of the old testament , the topic could be “ Moses is abandoned by his mother and siblings Aaron and Miriam in a basket beside the Nile." ( Is NOT John the Baptist).
The tapestry is by the workshops of Brussels, and according to the style, could most probably be from the school of Peter-Paul Rubens, and it seems as has been made between 1625 and 1630. Some character , as well as conditions and colors remember to those represented in the series "The Apotheosis of the Sacrament" ( by Rubens) today, in the Monastery of the Royal Barefoot of Madrid. I believe that once clean, it would win a lot. It requires cleaning and restoration. We got a rough estimate of 12000 Euro for professional cleaning and restoration. The tapestry has been restored previously, but not properly. THIS piece is just for experts ,with expertise in antique Flemish tapestry , if you are one of them probably already noticed we dated it Flemish 1625 to 30 ,you know Rubens was still alive.....is a little bit fearless ?
