The book is for those who wish to gain a general knowledge of the structure, habits, modes of growth and other leading features concerning the common animals of the country. Pub: American Book Company. Small duodecimo. The cover has, what feels like, a leather spine but it isn’t. It is fabulously decorative with a gold gilt stamped snail and lettering. The back and front cover are in a nicely contrasting pumpkin color with numerous pictorials including a snake, a squirrel and a crab. 190pp. + ads. Many textual illustrations. Second edition nd (the first edition had originally appeared in 1875). This textbook for young people is surprisingly scarce. There is a pos and date on the ffep (dated – Dec 25, 1905). There is some edge wear to the cover and to the head and tail of the spine (shelf wear). The pages have some foxing but the binding is tight and clean.
