Description: Ring/Opals/Ruby. Opal and ruby ring is a classic and sturdy pronged inline row setting with an open mounting back. Ten (3mm) faceted Burmese genuine rubies, approx.0.75ct tw, and 4 (4mm) ball fire opals, with two smaller opals at the ends, set in a sterling mounting. Stamped 0.925 Sterling & hallmarked. Ring is a size 7.5 to size 8. Very little wear if any; it wasn’t worn much. Opals still have original polish and fire, though the picture doesn’t show the fire very well, and the rubies are a beautiful matched color. Gemstones alone, are worth the price.

HISTORY: For thousands of years RUBY has been considered on of the most valuable gemstones of our Earth. It has all it takes for a precious stone: a wonderful color, excellent hardness and an overwhelming brilliance. Besides, it is an extremely rare gemstone. Color is Ruby’s most important feature, and transparency is secondary only. Inclusions do not effect the quality of a ruby and are considered a footprint that it is a genuine ruby. the term "corundum” which we use today is derived from the Sanskrit word "kuruvinda”. In the Sanskrit language Ruby is called "ratnaraj”, which does in fact translate as "King of Gemstones”. OPALS have numerous legends and tales, which can be traced back in its origins to a time long before our memory, to the ancient dream time of the Australian aborigines. It is reported in their legends that the creator came down to Earth on a rainbow, in order to bring the message of peace to all humans. And at the very spot, where his foot touched the ground, the stones became alive and started sparkling in all the colors of the rainbow. Thus was the birth of the Opals. Shine and sparkle define opals in a continually changing play of colors experts describe as “opalising.” In the 1960s a team of Australian scientists analyzed Opals with an electron microscope, it was discovered that small spheres from silica gel caused interference and refraction manifestations, which are responsible for the fantastic play of colors. The spheres, which are arranged in more or less compact structures, succeed in dissecting the light on its passage through the gemstone and turning it into all the colors of the rainbow, always new and always different. The fantastic color play of Opal reflects changing emotions and moods of people.
