Painting is a holy family with 4 figures (Jesus, Mary, Joseph, John the Baptist) and a sheep. Never any of Filippo Costaggini's work has ever been proposed for sale at an official auction and no sale has ever been recorded in Artprice's exhaustive database. The painting was once in a monastery in Westchester, NY and has been privately owned for the past 15 years. Filippo Costaggini, 1837-1907 was trained in Rome and later moved to the USA. One example of his paintings is in the St Agahta-St James, Church He also worked on the frieze of the Rotunda of the US Capital in Washington DC. This painting is an oil on canvas, which was put on masonite some years ago, for rescue purposes.
