Description:
This is female portrait was painted by the Hungarian-born artist, Lajos Mark (1867-1942). Depicted is a lovely woman applying lipstick while viewing herself in a mirror. Signed by the artist in the lower right corner. Frame measures 25 5/8" x 33 5/8" x 1.5" and canvas measures 23 1/2" x 31 5/8". Mark studied at the Julian Academy in Paris (founded in 1867 by Rodolphe Julian), and in Budapest under Gyula Benczur. Early in his career he painted genre scenes and nudes, and after moving to New York he became known as a portrait artist. In Hungary, Mark is particularly known for his murals that decorate the The Danube Palace (formerly the Casino of Lipótváros) which was completed in 1895. Mark's paintings are regularly sold at major auction in Europe and North America. Additional images forwarded upon request.
