Description:
This is a wonderful Federal style corner cupboard. It is 90 inches tall. It is 32 inches along each wall. The sides come out 5 inches. The piece is 34 1/2 inches across the front. The doors both lock. It is two part construction. The upper section has a high broken-scroll pediment ending in carved rosettes. It is centered by a reeded platform supporting a flame finial. There are matching reed platforms at each corner, however the finials are missing. There are reed carvings that continue down columns on the top and base. The two doors have single panes of glass, rather than individually glazed panes. The lower section has mid-molding above two doors. The doors have a flame veneer on the front. The two front feet are ball and claw with wonderful detail. The veneer is mahogany with a medium dark finish. The veneer is approximately 3/8 inches thick. The back of the base and top is hand planed. The top of the two sections is split wood. This indicates an early 1800’s period. However, the glass panes in the doors are single pieces, and not small glazed panes as one would expect with an early piece. This indicates the door glass and doors were replaced at some point.
