Description: These lovely milk glass dishes in a golden glory design with gold trim was made by the Federal Glass Company in the late 1950's early 1960's and is marked with the F in a Sheild/Heat Proof/USA on the bottom.
Federal Glass was established in Columbus Ohio in 1900 by George and Robert J. Beatty, from the successful Beatty glass manufacturing family. In 1901 they advertised only tumblers, and in 1906 they were listed as manufacturers of bottles and jars. In the 1940s and 50s Federal continued to produce tableware sets of colored pressed glass, like their "Heritage" pattern (1940-55) and "Star" which they made in the 1950s. Their "Park Avenue" pattern was made from 1941 through to the 1970s. They even produced "heat proof" sets with gold decoration, and their "Golden Glory" pattern (white with gold leaf sprays) was first made 1959-66 and then re-introduced in 1978. By 1980 Federal Glass, then part of a larger packaging and paper company, was closed down.
There are 40 pieces in all to the set, beautifully done with the golden design on a white background, the set could be used every day and dresses up any Holiday table. The set includes 7-dinner plates that measure 10 inches in diameter, 8-soup bowls that measure 1 1/4 inches deep and 8 inches across the rim, 8-small fruit/dessert bowls that measure 1 3/4 inches high and 5 inches across the rim, 7-saucers that measure 5 3/4 inches in diameter, 7-cups that measure 2 1/2 inches high and 3 3/4 inches across the rim, 1-round vegetable bowl that measures 2 3/4 inches high and 8 1/2 inches across the rim, 1-sugar bowl, with lid, that measures 4 1/2 inches high and 5 1/4 inches wide and 1 creamer that measures 2 3/4 inches high and 4 3/4 inches, spout to handle. As you can see in the pictures the set is in very good condition with out chips or cracks, some of the gold trim shows age wear from years of washing. A wonderful addition to any Vintage Kitchen or Federal Glass Collection.
