Description:
Fabulous quality solid mahogany two part mantel made by Irving
and Casson, Boston in 1896 (the original label is on the back). It was
custom made for Joseph Osfield Jr of Pawtucket, RI. The base portion has a
double reeded column on each side with carved capitals. Above the fireplace
is a beautifully carved section with intricately carved classical figures on
each side and an urn with cornucopias in the middle. Fancy moldings are
incorporated into the design. The fireplace opening measures 48"wide x
39.5"high. The back of the sides have small cut outs for a floor molding.
The top mirror can set directly on the mantel as shown in the photo, or be
hung above it. It has fluting on the sides and a top portion with five
carved heads with wings and a carved molding. This two part mantel has
superb quality, beauty, original condition and provenance!
