REMBRANDT BUGATTI (1884-1914)

Rembrandt Bugatti was born in Milan, Italy, into a notably artistic family, Rembrandt Bugatti was the second son of Carlo Bugatti (1856-1940) His father was a successful and important Art Nouveau furniture and jewelry designer who also worked in textiles, ceramics, and silver metalware. As such, Rembrandt Bugatti grew up in an environment where a great many of his parent's friends were from the artistic world. In 1902, the family moved to Paris, France, where they lived in a community of artisans. Considered one of the best animal sculptors of all time, Rembrandt Bugatti (1884-1914) was a son of the fabled family best known today for extraordinary automobile and furniture design.
Bugatti began exhibiting his works in the early 1900s, joining the major Paris gallery and foundry of A.A. Hebrard. In 1911, at age 27, he was elected Chevalier of the Legion of Honor. He enjoyed periods of success, which included praise from poet and critic Guillaume Apollinaire and the elder sculptor Auguste Rodin. Bugatti died In 1916, at the age of 31. Rembrandt Bugatti distinguished himself as one of the finest sculptors of the early Twentieth Century. Although his career was brief he produced some 300 sculptures to commercial and critical success. his works a shown in major Musuems and galleries around the world.
