Description: An Extremely Scarce James II Military Carbine c. 1685. The carbine has a lock by Robert Brooke which is also engraved with the cypher of King James II. It is secured by three screws and has a vertically acting sear. The very pointed tail of the lock and the quality of the iron trigger guard are both old fashioned features. This gun is featured in W. Keith Neal and D. H. L. Back, Great British Gunmakers 1540-1740, pg. 201 plate 66. Brooke is listed to having worked from 1640-1700 and having made flintlock carbines and muskets with royal cypher at his shop in London.
