Description: Rare antique thirteen tube late Victorian Hall clock , mahogany with maple inlays throughout, having a modified split-arch pediment with carved rosettes, twin-reeded turned pillars at either side of a keystone shaped door, having its original glass. Banded inlay throughout the bonnet, including banded keystone inlay at the side openings [covered with silk fabric], having fine lattice worked keystone panels inserted, above heavy dental moldings, above a waist with ornately carved, turned and reeded, elongated columns, about a central waist door of tombstone shape, with its matching banded inlay work throughout, having its original beveled glass above a rectangular waist with ornate matching inlay work throughout, above base moldings, atop four-carved lion's paw feet. Extremely rare three-train Elliott styled movement (signed Elite) having quarter hour striking of Westminster Carillon, and Whittington on the twelve tubes with an additional, more elongated hour tube. Dial similar to the finest Elliott dials with pierced floral and foliate cut-out work at the dial center, and in the spandral areas. Raised Arabic hour markers with nameplate above "Bawo & Dotter, N.Y. Patentees & Makers". Finely cut steel hands, independent seconds hand, subsidiary dials, or strike / silent, and tune changing, phases of the moon in the lunette. Dial in perfect condition, except for some dark spots in the silvering [see photo]. What makes a thirteen tube clock extremely rare and different from a nine tube clock is that each tune is played on a completely different set of tubes. Clock is in fine working order, pendulum, weights, and tubes are polished, case has recently been French polished, all glass is original including the beveled glass, bonnet and waste door locks in working order, original, with their original keys. Circa 1895-1910. Dimensions: 96 3/4" height, 25 1/2" in width measured at the feet, 17" in depth measured at the feet.
Status: For Sale Reference#: 2602
Condition: Fine original condition, all mechanics in working order, case recently French polished. Year: Circa 1895-1910.
