Description:
The tschinke is a small caliber birding rifle made during the mid-17th C in Silesia, a part of modern day Prussia. This example with swamped octagonal 33 1/4" rifled barrel (approx. .35 cal.) with dovetailed brass front site and notch rear site; the muzzle, middle section, and breech engraved with acanthus design. External wheellock engraved with acanthus and rams head on the cock. Button catch to set the sear, engraved sliding pan cover. Iron trigger guard with loops for the fingers. Walnut stock with distinctive tschinke butt, profusely inlaid with bone and mother-of-pearl depicting hunting animals, horses, and winged beasts among delicate floral decoration. Inlayed sliding patchbox cover. Original wood ramrod with carved bone tip. Metal parts with minor pitting and wear. Stock with minor repairs and small restorations to the inlay, but a very good example, both in quality and condition. These delicate rifles rarely survive in good condition without considerable restoration. Overall length 43 1/4". Contact seller for more photos.
