Description: Originally from the Boston area this pediment has exceptional scallop carving and must have sat over a very impressive doorway in its day! Made of basswood or another soft wood (pine, poplar) this is mid 19th century or earlier. Was taken out of boston area approx 30 years ago and has been hanging in a western ma great room since. Old repairs done to spots, seam showing, supporting backing board added, has been stripped off many many (many) layers of paint. Was perhaps gilded originally, can have wax finish done for extra fee. Is 7' x 28" high with great DEEP carving.
