Description: Head forged in 3 pieces, in the manner of some English and Colonial American halberds, with the axe head and beak sandwiched between the two pieces of iron forming the spike and ferrule. Convex halfmoon-shaped axe blade with pierced cross design. Rear beak with thickened point, pierced with 5 holes in a rosette pattern. Thick 16 ½" diamond-section spike. Two pyramid-shaped side lugs on each side (0ne with small repair). Two-piece riveted side straps, mounted on later shortened tapered oak shaft. Iron parts showing forging laminations, but generally smooth. Length of metal 38", overall 64 1/2".
