Description: A superb large Victorian 1850's antique 15ct yellow gold brooch with wonderful archaeological goldwork in the style of Castellani set with a large 18mm x 14mm, facet cut natural Citrine gemstone at the center and 4 smaller 6mm x 4mm citrines set at the top, bottom and sides. The wonderful goldwork is a technique that involves the application of tiny beads in gold on to smooth surface further embellished with filigree gold wire forming coils and scrolls with shell decoration to the top, bottom and sides. On the reverse the original steel pin and gold "C" clasp are in Excellent working condition. Dimensions: The brooch measures- 2 1/8 inches x 1 9/16 inches. Not marked tested for 15k gold. Around 1850 1860. 15k gold was only used between the years 1854 - 1932 in England and now highly collectable. Weight: 11.4grams Victorian Etruscan Revival Jewelry which drew inspiration from the archaeological digs in Northern Italy. Ancient Etruscan jewelry has intricate and beautiful designs; most is made of gold. The Etruscans employed a lot of delicate granulation (n which tiny beads of gold are soldered to the surface to form a pattern) and openwork filagree (in which filagree patterns are not applied over sheet metal). The Etruscans lived in Northern Italy for hundreds of years beginning in the late 8th century B.C.
