Description:
"Ethel Waters" by Antonio Salemme (1892-1995, Italian/American). Solid bronze on wooden base. Measurements: 12 inches bronze (16.5 inches total height). Actual bust is 100% life-size. Ca. 1927 (recast in 1992). An identical bust is in Yale University's world reknowned Beinecke Libray Art Collection.

In the post card, the bust is photographed by famous photographer Carl Van Vechten and signed by him on verso. Salemme, a sculptor and painter who was renowned in the 1930's for his sculptures, including his controversial nude sculpture of Paul Robeson, possibly his most famous and controversial sculpture.
