Description: 2081. This gorgeous mid 1800's, victorian, mahogany, hand-made, cylinder-top desk will make an impressive addition to your office or study. Undoubtedly it once graced an English barrister's office with both elegance and efficiency. Please note the picture of the dovetail detail in which the scoring and size of the dovetails evidence the caring hand craftsmanship that produced this lovely piece. Keep your bookends and collectables safe from falling within the 3 inch moulded top surround, designed for beauty as well as utility. The solidly constructed, easily rolling cylinder, is finely veneered with beautiful bees wing mahogany and trimmed on each side with curved chamfered columns. The graceful lines of the cylinder's chamfered columns extend on either side of the two pedestals all the way to bracket feet on which they stand. Behind the mahogany cylinder the interior is filled with drawers and a locking cubby for safe keeping of your valuables. The writing surface extends forward using finger pulls to provide a huge, 20 inches by 43 inches, work surface. The pedestals each house three elegantly moulded, locking drawers. Sadly, the drawer in the right pedestal is missing its lockset as is the cylinder, and the bail pulls on the cylinder and drawers, though they are lovely, are probably not original. This desk is still in marvelous condition considering its age and amazingly we have the keys for the locking drawers! Height 47in. , Width 48in.
