Description: English quarter-sawn oak Gothic Glastonbury armchair made for ecclesiastical uses. This remarkable Victorian chair was made in the exact pattern of it's medieval predecessor and is constructed with wedges that secure all of the structural elements. Its crestrail is pierced with three trefoils and the piece is upholstered in it's original maroon silk velvet (after 130 years, it shows some wear). This chair is clearly from a workshop that was influenced by the work of Augustus Pugin.
