Description:
Just after WWII, the British Royal Air Force (RAF) began decommissioning their chests of drawers, and since that time English cabinetmakers have been acquiring and refitting the well-made chests of drawers that served the RAF so well. This elm bachelors chest is just such a one, having been decommissioned probably around 1970 and recently restored before being imported to our antique furniture store here in Atlanta, GA, USA. This particular chest displays a highly distinct selection of elm, whose grain and complexion are probably shown here in their most ideal form. The solid brass swan neck pulls complement the elm beautifully, as well. As useful as it is attractive, this bachelors chest offers plenty of storage space, with a classic two-over-three drawer design and a brushing slide that is inlaid with fine brown leather bordered by gold tooling. Shaped bracket feet provide sturdy support. Because this bachelors chest is restored, it shows no wear other than that which shows on the sides and a few other places, which are only minor stress marks in the frame that were sustained during service in the RAF.
