Description:
This English Burled Wood Turret Top Gaming Table is in Excellent Condition, c.19th century. The exotic burled wood found on the table top and the apron is veneered over a solid oak carcass. The table is raised on four oak cabriolet legs with carved acanthus ornament and volutes at the knees, turret shaped corners, and ending in ball and claw feet. The design of this table originated with card and gaming tables crafted in mid-18th century England. The elegant shape of the turret corners evolved from open wells used to hold candles for evening game play. A rich honey colored patina, laid down with years of hand polishing, gives this desk a distinctive warm flavor. Recent White Oak supports have been added on the underside of the top to provide additional structural stability. Measuring 50”D x 57 1/2”W x 30”H it is wonderful for numerous designs.
