Description:
This impressive 2-piece secretary has important classical or Empire styling. Check out the extremely prominent layered cornice on the top. The wood or blind doors have deeply recessed panels with wide ogee mouldings. Each panel has an original finely cast brass design with traces of ormolu. The design is of a classical urn filled with leaves and flowers. The casting is exquisite and three-dimensional. The door retains its original working lock. Inside are 3 adjustable original shelves. The unique columns on either side of the doors are multifaceted with scalloped sides. The cylinder roll glades back to reveal a writing surface, which pulls forward for more room. Inside are 6 cubbies for storage. The felt writing surface has wear. It can be replaced with a beautiful leather and gold leaf edging for an additional cost. The cylinder roll retains its working lock. Below are 2 small ogee shaped drawers. One is missing its lock. Two more large hand dovetailed drawers are located below. Both are missing their original locks. All the drawers open and close smoothly. The same style columns appear on either side of the drawers. This secretary has incredible flame mahogany graining throughout its surfaces. Even the columns are dramatically grained. The finish is in excellent condition having a rich color and patina. This cylinder secretary was made by a master craftsman and would be a statement in any home.
