Description:
Check out the carvings and condition of this classical/Empire mahogany sofa. The shapely back is extensively and meticulously carved, displaying acanthus leaves and a shell with pomegranates, pears and leaves emerging from a cornucopia. Below the shell carving is a recessed panel framed in brass beading and brass line inlay. The arm supports repeats the use of carved cornucopia filled with fruit and acanthus leaves. The seat rail has 2 applied brass castings of winged griffons and scrolling leaves. There is a panel with line-inlaid brass between the castings. Even the legs are heavily carved ending in cast brass hairy paw feet with casters. The wine colored velvet upholstery is in excellent condition. The bolsters are separate and removable. The finish is in excellent condition having a deep, rich color and patina. The frame is tight with no breaks or repairs.
