Description: ELEGANT VICTORIAN ROCOCO ROSEWOOD MEEKS ** HAWKINS ** PARLOR SET Beautiful Laminated Rosewood Five Piece Parlor Suite This marvelous five piece Victorian Rococo Revival Laminated Rosewood Parlor Suite was meticulously crafted by J J W Meeks, circa mid 19th Century. Meeks captured the eptiome of opulent elegance of the times in the creation of this set known as the "Hawkins" pattern. A similar parlor suite, attributed to Meeks and presented to his daughter Sophia Theresa at her marriage to Dexter Hawkins, is conserved by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NYC. Features of this set include; a sofa, pair of arm chairs and a pair of side chairs, laminated rosewood, distinctive open scrollwork carvings, floral accents, grape clusters, cabriole legs, serpentine seats and is presented to you with like new buttoned & tufted tone on tone gold damask upholstery fabric. The sofa features the double French flute tufting design. Meeks is often compared to John H. Belter and they were compettitive revials in the mid 19th Century while both conducted business in NYC. We had the set professionally restored, minor repairs completed, so that it could be presented to you in fabulous condition. One old crest brace on the back of the sofa crest was placed there years ago and preserved in tack and one arm chair required a loose arm to be repaired.
