Description:
Clock experts agree that the Waltham Clock Company in Waltham, Massachusetts (Boston) produced some of the best clock-factory-made banjo clocks. This handsome edition of their expertise features the classic MT VERNON pattern in a reverse-painting on the lower door glass. The throat of the case displays a cameo of George Washington himself....the Master of the Mansion at Mt. Vernon.(The white patch on that photo is a reflection). My wife and I recently enjoyed a Christmas candlelight tour of Mt. Vernon and found it absolutely charming. This clock is in the quintessentially American "banjo" style....so named because the case resembles that musical instrument. The eight-day mechanism bears the embossed stamp of the Waltham Clock Company and has been proifessionally cleaned and serviced for perfect running condition. Inside the case are the usual tin weight baffles that are meant to protect the glasses from damage in the event that the clock is carried or lifted from the wall for some reason. Everything about this clock is pleasing to the eye and in excellent condition. NOTE: In some of our photographs of this clock there is a white spot which is simply the reflection of our camera flash and not a flaw in the painting of either the dial or glasses which are nearly perfect. On the dial is the Waltham name and also the name of the renowned jewelery company which sold the clock- BIGELOW KENNARD & Co. Inc. of Boston, Massachusetts.
