Description:
A wonderful pair of Edwardian earrings in platinum-topped 14K yellow gold. The surmounts, featuring round moonstone cabochons in collet settings, suspend knife-edge drops descending to collet-set diamond above large pear-shaped moonstone cabochons. The moonstones have good blue adularescence against the pale body color. The pear-shaped stones almost have a cat’s-eye effect because of the cutting shape. The large moonstones are set in claw settings with a double gallery that allows light to enter the stones freely. The old European cut diamonds are of good quality. The platinum topping over the gold contributes to the “pale” color scheme that was so important to late Edwardian jewels. The knife-edge mountings are articulated, so the earrings have a lot of movement when being worn. Tested and guaranteed 14K and platinum. Origin: America, ca. 1910. Condition: excellent, earwires are probably replacements. Size: 2-3/16” to top of earwire. Weight: 7.9 grams. Approximate Total Gemstone Weight: diamond, .1 ct; moonstone, 14.42 cts.
