Description: Antique Japanese bronze incense burner signed on the bottom Shogaku with the original box 'tomobako' that has the characters 'KORO' on the front cover. This means 'old bronze'. Dated from the Edo Period c.1880, this incense burner is brilliantly decorated with gourds (hyotan in Japanese), vines, and leaves all in raised relief. Hyotan is a symbol of good luck in Japan. The background is a weave diaper design. Mythical protective deity animals are the handles. c.1880. (5" x 4") (13cm x 10cm). EMS Shipping/Insurance to USA or Western Europe $35.
