Description:
This narrow five drawer stand is actually an Edison Record Cabinet from the turn of the Century and patented 1899. It held the cylinder records for the players which typically sat on the top of the stand. Each record fit over a cylinder sleeve inside the drawer to prevent them from contacting each other and being damaged. We have left the original remnants of the cylinders in each of the drawers and merely covered them loosely with a new drawer bottom. This cabinet was outfitted with a single locking top drawer which would also lock all of the lower drawers at the same time. Even now, you have to slightly open the top drawer to open any of the lower drawers. We have not disabled this mechanism though it wouldn't take much to do so. The pressed oak trim on the top frieze and the decorative columns on either side of the drawers is the only decoration on this quartersawn cabinet. The pulls we believe to be original to this piece. And the Patent Date label is still intact on the top rail. It's ready for your collection.
