Description: Fresh from an estate here in Florida, this is one outstanding piece of furniture!! Constructed of walnut, it measures 36” x 22” by 92” high (84 inches high with the scroll removed.) It is a 2-piece secretary, and separates about in half in height for easy transport.

Please note: The secretary is pictured with the scroll removed, as ours is a low-overhead shop . Please ask for more photos - we are limited here to four, but more detailed photos are available.

Remarkably, it is almost 100% original. The glass, hardware and even the finish are all original, and in excellent condition. The only replacement is the felt on the writing surface, which we replaced because the original was a bit stained and tatty.

Overall condition is 9 or 9+ on the infamous scale of 10, and well deserved. The only minor demerits that I can find are some slight scrapes in the finish at the bottom of the front, some pinhead (and pinpoint) spots of white paint (probably spattered off the edge of a paint roller when the room was being painted) on one side, and two of the nuts that hold the original drawer pulls in place are replacements. The brass hardware has been left un-polished on purpose. It has taken 100+ years for the brass to earn its patina, and it would only take a few minutes to lose that patina. That is a decision for the new owner.

It is quite unusual to find a utilitarian piece of furniture from the late 1800’s in this fine original condition. There are the usual signs that it was used, but carefully-maintained, and there is no damage.

If you are in the Florida - Georgia area, there is a good possibility of delivery either free, or at a reduced rate, as we travel in that area frequently. Please don’t hesitate to request additional information or more detailed pictures. Both are readily available. ALSO, please don’t fail to check the other items we are offering. On the left side of this page, under the photo, please click “View Dealer’s Other Items” to scan our offerings of 1775 - 1900 antique American furniture, ship and pond models, other nautical items, rare tools and usually some other good stuff.
