Description: Fabulous Civil War letter written by Harlow J.Hern of Company C of the 100th Indiana Volunteers from East Point,Georgia in 1864. Hern writes that fellow soldier Billy Sharp was killed at Jonesboro,Ga. as they were driving the Rebs back while following them 5 miles towards Macon,Georgia. Hern goes by saying in the letter that matters are now left up to old Billy Sherman (General Sherman).

He describes Billy Sharp being killed by a piece of shell (cannon) and that he lived from 5 till 10 in the evening before dying. Harlow Hern than writes that they got lumber for a coffin and buried him in a mass grave along with several in the regiment. That grave is likely still there and perhaps could be located. Hern ends the letter by stating Atlanta is now Ours!!!

Vivid description of Billy's Sharp's death and fabulous riveting content.
