Description:
Early Flow Blue. Serving bowl dates from the early Victorian period with its gold stars and flourish swags around the band with its 12 panels. The 12 panel style are from the earliest cobalt flow blue period according to THE COLLECTORS ENCYCLOPEDIA OF FLOW BLUE CHINA by Mary Frank Gaston. Looks like an Imperial China Pattern or Colonial Company pattern and appears to be earthenware. Shows use, color and luster and pattern is faded from loving use. All over crazing, minor discoloration, still a beautiful specimen for the collector of early flow blue. (The older Flow Blue examples are disappearing.) Bowl measures: 9.5 inches X 2 inches deep. Pattern is referred to in The Collectors Encyclopedia of Flow Blue China, pg.121, Plate 340, which shows a cup. The Colonial Company also had a similar pattern, pg 151, Plate 414.
