Description: Here's an early sewing implement - a tape measure and pincushion. The tape measure is made of silk and when you turn the bone shaft, it returns the tape. I believe the material that it is made out of is called "vegetable ivory." There is one small "break" in the vegetable ivory where the tape measure and larger pincushion are located. This is quite an interesting piece of sewing related collectables.
