Description:
Here is a lovely potato (or large soup) bowl in the Clyde Scenery pattern. The potter was Job and John Jackson, Staffordshire potters dating from 1831 to 1835. The transfer was done in a light medium blue. This pattern had different central scenes on each size piece. This bowl shows a castle with a flag on top, surrounded by woods. There is a figure in the foreground, who appears to be collecting branches. In the far distance, there is a lake with sailboats and mountains on the horizon. A single tall tree defines the left side of the scene. There is a floral band with scrolls surrounding this center scene which is connected by small open circles. The rim has miniature scenes with sailboats, a small house, and mountains, alternating with floral and scroll designs. Smaller border patterns are on the inside and outside of the pattern on the rim. The edge of the bowl is gently scalloped. There are no chips, cracks or repairs, and the glaze is nice and shiny. A wonderful addition to your collection of Clyde Scenery or transferware.
