Description:
This is one of the nicest of the commemorative pieces of pressed glass. The Three Presidents bread platter has a serrated edge and is ornamented with a chain of beaded swags or drops, and a similar design is used around the inner side of the border. A beaded band is around the outside of the center portion of the tray which is frosted. This plate came with and without being frosted. At the top of the border is the inscription in bold lettering, "In Rememberance". The lower half of the border is ornamented with a laurel wreath of stippled leaves. In the center of the tray are three oval panels border with laurel wreaths, each having a portrait of one of our great presidents: Wanshington in the center, Garfield to the left and Lincoln on the far right. Under each man is an inscription: "First in Peach" for Washington, "God Reigns" for Garfield, and "Charity for All" under Lincoln. This plate was issued after the assassination of Presitdent Garfield and gives some indication of the esteem in which he was held. In the lower part of the center is the American Shield with the stars and bars and laurel leaves. This large platter is 12-1/2" long by 10" wide and 1-1/2" deep. There are no chips, flakes or cracks in this beautiful piece of glass.
