Description:
This is a fantastic find of a cream pitcher in Opalescent Flint Milk Glass circa 1850's. The pattern is called Paneled Leaf and I have also heard it called Paneled Fern. This beautiful pattern can be seen on page 82 of E. M. Belnap's book "Milk Glass". There is a picture of a Paneled Leaf creamer. I also have a spoon holder available. On the bottom of the page is written "The pattern is so unique I have found it on no other piece such as a sugar, butter, compote, etc." I myself have seen other pieces of this pattern but not many. This creamer stands 6" tall at the spout and 3" in diameter at the widest point of the body. The foot is 2-3/4" in diameter. I can find nothing wrong with this early creamer. I have seen this pattern attributed to Sandwich Glass but can find no reference to confirm. The glass is flint, opalescent milk glass, and very early, I am guessing early in the 1850-70's period. This is something very special for the collector that has everything. There are absolutely no chips, flakes or cracks and the applied handle with the squiggle is firmly attached with no heat checks.
