Description:
18th century~ oil on wood panel. A Shepherd boy dressed in country garb is seen playing the flute in an outdoor country landscape near buildings in ruin. A herd composed of cows, sheep and goats are gathered around the Shepherd listening to the music. The composition is typical of the Dutch school and of the period. Old hand written label on the back of panel translated from Dutch reads: Dutch School, The price of 60 gilders (back then) and an old auction label with numbers 1073 in Dutch language, possibly describing the piece in the catalog. Measures 20" W by 13 1/2" H, painting itself measures 16" W by 9 1/2" H. Excellent condition with only a minor scratch to the composition on the left side, frame has been restored and the painting has been professionally cleaned. The frame is a black lacquered wood frame with inner gilt border and of the period.
