Description:
Additional photos available. Large 18th century Dutch coal hod or bucket was hand forged using solid brass and copper. The exterior shows several scenes in a partial repousse design. Large pair of lions on one side with a shield in center,a Dutch family dressed in 18th century clothing of Holland on the other in an outdoor scene with houses,trees and a windmill in the background. Lion head motifs on either side with loop handles. Solid copper hammered lip with copper rivets along the solid brass band. Copper rivets were also used in the seaming. Stands on three large claw feet. A separate black steel handled liner actually held the coal and is extremely heavy,also hand forged. Has probably been replaced many times over the years. The hod has been professionally polished at some point over it's history and in excellent condition with exception to a small area at bottom that was braised or soldered many years prior using a silver material. Outstanding planter,fireplace accessory,Canterbury among several of the uses. Measures 16.25H X 17.5L X 17.5D.
