Description:
This is an elegant set of 3 clear crystal decanters handsomely mounted in sterling silver that has been prettily designed with figural putti in the Rococco style. The crystal has been stylishly decorated with a series of deeply incised lines in a swirling diagonal pattern to draw the eye across the decanters' surface, thus subtly emphasizing their slightly bulbous form. They each rest on scrolling silver bases which have been neatly embellished with floral decoration. Each of the elegantly scrolling handles has been crafted at the base in the form of a delightful figural dolphin, while their upper portions have each been enhanced by the addition of lovely intricately made flowers and foliage. The decanters' collars have been lavishly embellished with more flowers, leaves and grape clusters and each frames a pair of adorable winged putti frolicking happily amongst the grape vines. These figures have each been exquisitely rendered and stand out in bold relief against their gently stippled backgrounds. On each decanter the cherubs flank a cartouche surrounded by elaborate scrollwork, none of which have been monogrammed or show any signs of mono removal. The lift-off lids have gently stippled lines over their surfaces and each fits snugly atop the decanters' gently curving upper rims. The top of each one has been crowned with a figural finial in the form of another mischievous cherub. On the two smaller decanters the putti sit jauntily astride the lids, each waving a grape cluster in one hand, while on the larger decanter their bigger friend perches merrily, kicking his chubby little legs to one side while he gleefully surveys his own cluster of grapes. The figures have been beautifully made and their pleasingly plump little bodies have been realistically rendered, even down to their dimples! They each have beautifully made facial features with adorably mischievous expressions and their hair and wings have been crafted with great skill and precision. The quality of the workmanship throughout is of the very finest quality and everything is in excellent condition. The crystal is clean and unclouded and the decorative elements of the silver are all crisply and finely defined. The undersides of the bases of each decanter have been clearly stamped in block capital letters with the words TIANG HOK KONG SOE, indicating that they are of Dutch origin. This exceptional set would make a sophisticated design statement in any romantic setting and would add a touch of class to any soiree. The pair of smaller decanters each measure approximately 3 " in diameter at the bases x approx. 4" to the widest point of the handles x approx. 10 " tall to the top of the finials. The larger decanter measures approx. 5" in diameter at the base x approx. 6 " to the widest part of the handle and stands approx. 16" tall to the top of the finial.
