Description:
This hardback book is dedicated to the many Dresden studios that were in business in Germany in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Jim & Susan Harran, authors of two editions of Collectible Cups & Saucers, have plunged into their new interest head-on, researching the Dresden studios, which were mostly destroyed during World War II. This book contains more than 550 color photographs, as well as illustrations and original catalog pages of fine Dresden, Meissen, and KPM porcelains. Readers will find this book to be primarily a complete reference guide and secondarily a price guide. Background information on the town of Dresden, the companies, and the manufacturing and decorating processes are provided, as well as sections on Helena Wolfsohn, Carl Thieme, Donath & Company, A. Lamm, F. Hirsch, and R. Klemm. For each studio discussed, the authors provide historical information, style, forms, marks, and photos. There are even collecting tips, a discussion on reproductions, and a bibliography. Dresden Porcelain Studios is sure to be a hit with collectors. Chapter on Dresden Lace Figurines is included!

Publisher's Review:
This book provides, all in one source, historical information about the beautiful city of Dresden, Germany, and the emergence of the porcelain decorating studios there. Information is included on what Dresden porcelain is, how it is made, and how it is decorated. A history and marks of the six largest Dresden studios, a representative sample of their products, and a realistic fair market value range are provided. Catalog reprints and an index are also included.
