Description: Glazed stoneware doubly gourd vase by Axel Salto Royal Copenhagen. Incised signature SALTO. Copenhagen factory marks. Height 18 cm. Axel Salto (1889-1961) was the most important designer of ceramic art in Denmark. Salto was a designer by the Royal Copenhagen from 1933 to his death in 1961. Apart from his brilliant ceramic, Axel Salto ran a succesfull career as a painter, graphics artist and author. He illustrated books, jewellery and textiles. Axel Salto won numerous awards throughout the years including the Grand Prix at the Milan Triennale 1951.
