One of the many books from the Estate of Francis P. Fretwell that we will be selling. The library is the largest privately owned collection of dog books in the world. Mr. Fretwell was the owner of Monfret Kennels, which bred champion standard poodles. He was former president and governor of the Poodle Club of America, and the Italian Greyhound Club of America. He also served as a delegate to the American Kennel Club for decades. His wonderful collection of books has been carefully maintained. *** The Dogs of Great Britain, America, and Other Countries. Prize winners at annual bench show [Westminster Kennel Club?], New York through 1883. Their breeding, training, and management in health and disease, comprising all the essential parts of the two standard works on the dog by Stonehenge. Together with chapters by American writers. Original cloth, gilt lettering and decorations including the Bloodhound headstudy from The Dogs of the British Islands. Spine head is torn, and the spine is worn and faded. Gilt still bright. Edges rubbed. Hinges have been reinforced, also frontispiece. Pen notation on title page. Mr. Fretwell's bp on front fixed endpaper. The interior is otherwise in quite good shape, securely bound, clean.
