R. Brown’s original chalk pastel drawing entitled, “Desert Nomads” is a dramatic composition illustrating the solitary life of the wandering culture. The scene is shown in complete silhouette as two people are seen near their camels along the horizon beneath towering palms. The bold oranges of the sky as the scorching sun finally sinks below the dunes is in stark contrast to the deep black of the silhouetted landscape. The piece has been double-matted with a black bottom mat that serves to extend the edges of the picture plane and a golden yellow top mat which compliments the setting sun within the composition. The black textured frame in which the drawing is mounted echoes the black mat within and completes the presentation of the image with modern sophistication bringing the total dimensions to 16 ˝” x 20 ˝.” The unique matting and framing presentation of this piece was individually selected and created by Le Chateau’s renowned master framer, Jeanette Shoenrock, and bears her signature on the back.
