An Important Dan Guere Ngere WE Terror Mask
Antique African Masque Tribal Sculpture Liberia

Important Dan Wobe Guere Ngere We Terror Mask - Iron Teeth, Bells, Human Hair
Antique African Art - Tribal Sculpture - Forest Spirit - Liberia to Cote d'Ivoire

Collected from the: We Guere peoples of Liberia to the southwestern region of Cote d'Ivoire, West Africa
Material: Hardwood, human hair, iron teeth, brass bronze and iron bells, fiber, woven cloth, pigment, encrusted sacrificial libations, skin oil
Estimated Period: Very early 20th century, conservatively
Dimensions: 18.25" height, 5.5" width, 6" depth; weight is 3.85 pounds
Condition: Magnificent! This authentic, true museum quality specimen hails from a prestigious private Parisian collection. No damage or repair, exquisite signs of age and authentic wear from extensive tribal use; exposed wood displays significant patination. Single top front tooth was lost to time or use judging by the consistent patination present at the area. All applied materials remain securely attached and firmly anchored in place. Make special note of the braided human hair attached at forelock, both ears, and curled mustache. Encrustation suggest layers of sacrificial libations, beautifully burnished patina with skin oil residue along high points, interior and back rim indicative of extensive tribal performance and frequent handling - dramatic expression on this stunning old spirit!

Please to fully appreciate this remarkable old masque!
