Description: A very well done daguerreotype photo from the Civil War era, 1860's or just a bit earlier, This case holds the image of a lady in a plaid costume from the era with a slightly severe hairdo with a middle part. She does look serene. Image is surrounded by a gold leaf setting in this case that measures nearly 3 in. x 2.5 in. In very good condition and the hook clasp is still intact and in working order. Embossed pattern on the outside cover of the case. The case is about one-half in thick when folded to carry in a breast pocket to keep a loved one near.
