Description:
Outstanding and extremely rare 1930's "Hollywood Movie Star" perfume bottle. Frosted finish floral decor with geometrical hand cut work on transparent Aquamarine glass bottle. Original - design matching - acid etched crystal stopper with 1930's Hollywood Star . We discovered the original mold from the 1930's. After questioning why no pieces currently exist from this mold, we were told that 60 years ago, the production of this piece was not feasible secondary to a high rate of inconsistencies. Apparently 9 out of every 10 stoppers for this piece were warped following the first stage of the manufacturing process making further finishing steps impossible. Due to this high rate of loss, the maker decided not to market any bottles with this "Hollywood Star" stopper. It is for this reason that you will not find a single listing for this item in any publications on the subject. Although a 90% failure rate still exists now 60 years later, we have taken on the challenge of producing a limited number of these stoppers despite the tremendous expense. Therefore this item cannot be considered a reissue or reproduction. This is technically an ORIGINAL piece made today with the same painstaking steps endured by craftsman of the 1930's. The color glass bottles range from the easy to find to extremely rare. Clear crystal is the least expensive, most common and easiest to find. The production of the Vaseline and opaque colors is the most expensive and most difficult to find. Rarity of colors : "1" easiest to find (Clear Crystal), "2" common, "3" intermediate, "4" scarce (opaque black), "5" rare (Vaseline, Malachite), "6" very rare (opaque blue-Lapis), "7" hardest to find (Turquoise-Aqua). For more details see pg. 11 in the publication listed below. This Aquamarine glass is rated "7" - Hardest to find. Mint condition, dimension : 7"H x 4"W.
