Description:
Lovely cut glass sugar shaker with original sterling silver top. Hallmarks date it to Birmingham 1927. Smaller than most shakers - this one is especially attractive with its minutely faceted diamond pattern within other cut diamonds in the glass. Many of the shakers with sterling tops did not make it through the second world war - the tops were often melted down and replaced with silver plate ones. It is an advantage to find the sterling topped ones so we can date them exactly... Designed to be filled with powdered sugar and used during high tea where the sugar would be sprinkled on cakes, berries and muffins. Sugar Shakers can also be used for cinnamon sugar and for parmesan cheese!
